I’m not an expert in space travel, but I think we’re pretty close to being able to do this. Mars and Venus are are closest neighbors.

We’ve recently sent some robots onto Mars which have been able to take some pictures of the planet and perform some tests on the environment there. Have a look at this NASA link for some amazing pictures and more information: http://marsrover.nasa.gov/home/index.html.

A satellite called the Venus Express (http://sci.esa.int/science-e/www/area/index.cfm?fareaid=64) has been orbiting Venus since 2006 and has been taking pictures and making some measurements of the temperatures and atmosphere.

We are exploring Mars and Venus already! In the past we thought that we needed to put humans on these planets to explore and perform experiments. However as Lena said, we currently have robots on Mars that are solar powered and can perform hundreds of very technical experiments. One day humans are likely to step foot on Mars and perhaps establish a base, but my guess is that as robots become even more high tech, they will be able to do everything we could do, and more!

Venus is a bit cold but Mars could be an option for people one day. It is all about money though, unless governments want to fund it then it is unlikely to happen. At the moment money is tight so countries like America are cutting their spending on space travel. Perhaps one day it will be seen as more important and they will put more money in. Would you like to go to Mars?
