Well assuming that is is humans that decide what rights we have, then I guess it is because we are biased in favour of our own species. While guilty of this myself (I would save a drowning human over a drowning rat). I don’t believe there is any evidence to show that we are ‘special’ so deserve these greater rights. What do you think?
I think we are all equal and people who agree with mistreating animals are wrong. My work is all about developing alternatives to animal testing so we don’t need to use them any more as it shouldn’t happen in my opinion.
I completely agree. We also seem to assign rights depending on how much we like that animal and how superior that animal is compared to others. I bet you would save a drowning dog over a drowning rat too even though we say that they have the same rights. There have been many campaigns against testing on certain animals just because we like them and think that they are more advanced in some way.
