2 Question: When lightning strikes the sea, why don't all of the fish die? Keywords: earth, fish, lightning Asked by sophie27 to Sean, Laura, Asif, Lena, Viv on 12 Mar 2012. This question was also asked by monkeyboii.
Sean Murphy answered on 9 Mar 2012:
It is possible for lightning to kill some unlucky fish in the sea, however as water is a conductor of electricity the power is transferred through billions of liters of water so the total shock the fish would receive is very small.
Laura Waters answered on 12 Mar 2012:
A few fish would die but not many, they would have to be close to the point of impact. I’d not suggest swimming in a storm just in case 😉
