This is a good question. I think about it from the point of view of the foods that were available while we were evolving and are therefore adapted to digesting. We used to survive on fruits, vegetables, nuts, and the occasional gorge on meat and fat. We’re not really well adapted to eat the large amounts of sugar that we do now – it has no nutritional value other than calories. However, if you are very active and need energy, it’s necessary. When it comes to salt, we do need a certain amount in our diet to replace what’s lost through sweating. So, my answer to your question is – don’t cut anything out completely, but don’t overdose on anything either. Moderation is the key!

As lena said, we probably don’t want to remove anything completely. I think we eat too much saturated fat. It is recommended that we need to reducing saturated fat intake to less than 7% of total calories.
