Yes we have DNA in every cell in our body. It is the blueprint for how everything in our body functions. They have also discovered that some DNA exists outside of our cells too, and we are trying to measure this to see how this could cause disease.

DNA is amazing and has been used in forensic analysis to prove a criminal was guilty even years after the offence.

DNA is found in pretty much all the different types of cells we have – except mature red blood cells. They have no DNA at all in their mature state and cannot divide. The reason for this is so that there is more space for haemoglobin which is responsible for carrying oxygen around your body.

Having no DNA makes red blood cells immune to all viruses. Viruses target cells’ DNA and protein making functions which red blood cells don’t have. Clever cells! 🙂
