      Seeds are basically plant eggs. Each seed is an embryo (a fertilised egg) and it usually has a hard outer shell for protection and some stored food for when the plant starts developing. When the conditions are right, the seed will germinate and become a plant.

      I’m not sure when the first seeds were discovered. It would have been a long time ago. Early humans will have experimented with eating them as they are really high in energy.
