      Currently there are 118. The 118th element, ununseptium, was added in 2010. Only 98 if the 118 chemical elements actually occur naturally on Earth.

      Yes we are able to create man made elements, of all the synthetic elements, plutonium—first synthesized in 1940—is the one best known, because of its use in atomic bombs and nuclear reactors.
