      In terms of my current specific work if I can do my job properly and help the police do theirs properly they may be able to catch and deter more criminals so you can live your life safely.
      In terms of science in general there are many ways in which you benefit from the work of scientists. That was the question previously about what the purpose of science is and the answers give a lot of good examples.
