I definitely think love helps the human race – it means that we have children. I also think it adds meaning to our lives. Love can bring joy as well as despair but, to quote a well known saying, I think “it’s better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all”. 🙂
I’m trying to think more practically, for instance, love also means that we would take unnecessary risks to help one another that could easily end in more harm than good, love means that we are more likely to look after our children but also to spoil them, it means that we are more likely to only have one partner which affects the population and the structure of society itself. Our society is based more on friendship than on love, both dependence on each other the profits of working together create this friendship but love is more to do with family and reproduction.
